========================================== TINKA is a traditional music ensemble of variable geometry created by cellist Maiana Lavielle. Originally from the Basque Country, Maiana explores the musical traditions of her country and reinterprets them by blending them with other historically relevant musical practices. The Basque Country is not an isolated culture, and this territory is rich of multiple influences, such as migrations from Northern and Eastern Europe, the Arab-Islamic empire, and the Celtic traditions of Spain. TINKA project is as much rooted in traditions and their preservation as in artistic creation and crossbreeding that offer a vision of what Basque music may have been or could be. For this project, Maiana is the 2022 winner of the Leenaards cultural grant, which will allow her to travel and study various musical practices from outside Europe.
