Theatre performance: “Still in Tanger and cannot travel. Therese”

The fascinating life story of the Austrian dancer Therese Zauser (1910-1942) – a biographical, multimedia theatre performance connecting Austria & North Africa.

At the age of 19, Therese Zauser decides to escape her hometown Feldkirch in Austria to travel to North Africa and realize her biggest dream – living the adventurous life of a dancer and singer. She tours through Alexandria, Suez, Algiers and Casablanca, never spending more than a few weeks in a place. Following the Nazi takeover of Austria in 1938, Therese had to return to Europe. She struggles with the hardships of her new life during World War II, barely able to find work as a dancer. After being arrested for hostile statements against the Nazis, Therese dies in a concentration camp in 1942.

The play “Still in Tanger and cannot travel” by the Austrian director Brigitte Walk follows the life of an extraordinary Austrian artist in North Africa of the 1930s. The play is accompanied by video footage shot by contemporary cinematographers from Alexandria, Tunis and other cities where Therese Zauser performed during her life.

يتشرف المركز الثقافي النمساوي بتقديم العرض المسرحي النمساوي “ما زلت في طنجة ولا أستطيع السفر. تيريزا” والذي يحكي قصة الراقصة النمساوية تيريزا زاوزير ( ١٩١٠ – ١٩٤٢) والتي تقرر الهروب من مسقط رأسها مدينة فيلدكيرش بالنمسا في اتجاه شمال افريقيا لتمارس حياتها الفنية وخاصة الرقص والغناء متجولة بين الإسكندرية والسويس وكازابلانكا وغيرها حيث تقضي ما لا يزيد عن بضعة أسابيع في كل مدينة. بعد اندلاع الحرب العالمية الثانية تضطر تيريزا للرجوع الي أوروبا حيث عانت من صعوبات الحياة بسبب افتقادها لمصدر الرزق. وبعد أن تم سجنها بسبب مهاجمتها للنازية يتم قتلها بأحد معسكرات التعذيب. وتقدم مسرحية “ما زلت في طنجة ولا أستطيع السفر. تيريزا” قصة الراقصة بأسلوب متفرد حيث تبدأ القصة عام ١٩٣٩ . تقدم تيريزا شخصيتين: شخصية امرأة وشخصية رجل يقومان بأخذ الحضور في رحلة في اتجاهين متوازيين في حياة الراقصة حيث يقوم أحدهما بالرجوع بالزمن الي الخلف وصولا الي طفولتها بينما تقوم الشخصية الأخرى بالتحرك في اتجاه المستقبل بتتبع حياتها ابتداءا من عام ١٩٣٩ الي وفاتها بأحد معسكرات التعذيب عام ١٩٤٢.

    L’affascinante storia della vita della ballerina austriaca Therese Zauser (1910-1942) – uno spettacolo teatrale biografico e multimediale che collega Austria e Nord Africa.

All’età di 19 anni, Therese Zauser decide di fuggire dalla sua città natale, Feldkirch, in Austria, per recarsi in Nord Africa e realizzare il suo sogno più grande: vivere la vita avventurosa di una ballerina e cantante. È in tournée ad Alessandria, Suez, Algeri e Casablanca, non trascorrendo mai più di qualche settimana in un luogo. Dopo la conquista nazista dell’Austria nel 1938, Teresa dovette tornare in Europa. Lotta con le difficoltà della sua nuova vita durante la seconda guerra mondiale, riuscendo a malapena a trovare lavoro come ballerina. Dopo essere stata arrestata per dichiarazioni ostili contro i nazisti, Therese muore in un campo di concentramento nel 1942.

La commedia “Ancora a Tangeri e non posso viaggiare” della regista austriaca Brigitte Walk segue la vita di uno straordinario artista austriaco nel Nord Africa degli anni ’30. Lo spettacolo è accompagnato da riprese video girate da cineasti contemporanei di Alessandria, Tunisi e altre città in cui Therese Zauser si è esibita durante la sua vita.
