Mazaher ensemble (Zar) , فرقة مزاهر

Mazaher is an ensemble in which women play a leading role.

The musicians of Mazaher , Um Sameh, Um Hassan, Nour el Sabah are among the last remaining Zar practitioners in Egypt.

The music is inspired by the three different styles musical styles of the Zar tradition practiced in Egypt. One of the African dimensions of Egypt, Zar music unfolds through rich poly-rhythmic drumming: it’s songs are distinctly different from other Egyptian music traditions.

The music of Mazaher is inspired by the three different styles of Zar music practiced in Egypt-the Egyptian or Upper Egyptian Zar, Abu Gheit Zar and the Sudanese, or African Zar.

The ECCA is not researching or documenting the ritualistic aspects of the Zar, rather it focuses documenting and promoting this unique musical legacy.

ECCA has gathered together some Zar performers and motivated them to go through lengthy sessions of rehearsing, remembering and recording. Mazaher is the result of these efforts.

الزار هو من الأشكال الموسيقية القليلة التى تحتل فيها المرأة دورا أساسيا. وتعود أهميته الفنية لكونه من الفنون التى عاشت بعيداً عن عمليات التأثير والتأثر، نظرا لمحاصرة المجتمع والدولة لها فاحتفظت بقوامها وأصولها القديمة التي قد تعود إلى العصور المصرية القديمة ويمتد الزار حتى الجزيرة العربية واليمن والخليج العربى والعراق وإيران. والزار فى مصر ينقسم إلى ثلاثة أنواع: الزار المصرى أو الصعيدى وزار أبو الغيط، والزار السودانى أو الأفريقى.

I musicisti di Mazaher, Um Sameh, Um Hassan, Nour el Sabah sono tra gli ultimi praticanti Zar rimasti in Egitto.

La musica si ispira ai tre diversi stili musicali della tradizione Zar praticati in Egitto.

Una delle dimensioni africane dell’Egitto, la musica di Zar si dispiega attraverso una ricca batteria poliritmica: le sue canzoni sono nettamente diverse dalle altre tradizioni musicali egiziane.

La musica di Mazaher si ispira ai tre diversi stili della musica Zar praticato in Egitto: lo Zar egiziano o dell’Alto Egitto, Abu Gheit Zar e il sudanese o Zar africano.

L’ECCA non sta ricercando o documentando gli aspetti rituali dello Zar, piuttosto si concentra sulla documentazione e la promozione di questa eredità musicale unica.

L’ECCA ha riunito alcuni artisti di Zar e li ha motivati ​​a passare attraverso lunghe sessioni di prove, ricordare e registrare. Mazaher è il risultato di questi sforzi.
