“La seconda notte di nozze” by Pupi Avati
Apulia, immediately after the war: Giordano Ricci is a big man with a shaggy beard who works in the fields of Torre Canne. No one objects to this activity of his due to “certain past melancholies that doctors have been unable to remedy.” Giordano is considered by everyone to be mentally ill. The only ones who care about him are the old aunts who run the family’s confectionery factory. Giordano’s life suddenly changes with the arrival of a letter from Bologna. The sender is his sister-in-law Liliana, his brother’s widow for a few months, whom he secretly loved during his adolescence. Giordano, delighted, does not hesitate to invite her to the large Torre Canne farmhouse, arousing the wrath of his aunts.
