The exhibition ‘Finding Motherland’ by Austrian artist and photographer Franzi Kreis brings together intimate stories of mothers from Egypt and Austria – told through the voices of their daughters. Last December, Franzi Kreis spent time in and around Cairo, listening to Egyptian women as they shared personal memories of their mothers. These stories, now transformed into an audio archive, are presented alongside portraits of the women who told them, as well as selected narratives from Austrian women, creating a cross-cultural dialogue on motherhood, memory, and identity. Through photography and personal interviews ‘Finding Motherland’ invites visitors to step into the lives of women from vastly different backgrounds – revealing shared emotions, struggles, and love that transcend borders.
The exhibition also includes a behind-the-scenes video by filmmaker Lukas Beck, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind the project. We welcome you to join us for the opening reception, where both Franzi Kreis and Lukas Beck will be present to share more about their journey in bringing these stories to life.

A b o u t
Franzi Kreis is a young artist based in Vienna and working with the medium photography, audio and film. Her exhibitions, “Finding Motherland” and “Father Earth”, have been drawing attention from Vienna to Rome. Franzi Kreis is showing her narrative, artistic production in numerous presentations since 2015. Projects for instance at Wiener Festwochen performing arts festival, Wiener Staatsoper, Landestheater Niederösterreich and Volkstheater Vienna complete her work. Her first coffee table book “Limelight“ has been published in 2020. Currently she is performing live on stage at the dark-room, Dunkelkammer, in Volkstheater Wien in „Shame“ by Annie Ernaux. Works created during the performances of „Shame“ are presented in the Lukas Feichtner Gallery. In 2024, Franzi Kreis designed the stage set for the Herbert Pixner Project’s From The Dark Side Of The Alps, a tour comprising 80 concerts. Kreis is part of the BMEIA women’s program “Calliope. Join the dots.”, which aims to highlight the achievements of Austrian and Austria-based female artists and scientists.

فرانسي كرايس
يجمع معرض “البحث عن الوطن الأم” للفنانة و المصورة النمساوية فرانسي كرايس بين قصص حميمية لأمهات من مصر و النمسا يتم روياتها من خلال أصوات بناتهن. قامت فرانسي كرايس خلال شهر ديسمبر الماضي بقضاء وقت في وحول القاهرة حيث قامت بالاستماع الى نساء مصريات قمن بالتحدث عن ذكرياتهن الخاصة عن امهاتهن. وسوف تعرض هذه القصص التي تم تحويلها الى أرشيف سمعي جنبا الى جنب مع صور لهذه النساء التي قمن بسردها بالإضافة الى رويات مختارة لنساء نمساويات مما أدى لخلق حوار عبر الثقافات حول الأمومة و الذكريات و الهوية. ومن خلال التصوير والحوارات الشخصية يقوم معرض “البحث عن الوطن الأم” بدعوة الزوار للغوص في حياة نساء من خلفيات مختلفة تماما كاشفا عن مشاعر و صراعات مشتركة بالإضافة الى حب يتخطى الحدود.
يتضمن المعرض أيضا عرض فيلم فيديو للمخرج السينمائي لوكاس بيك يظهر لمحة عن الوجه الإبداعي لخلفية هذا المشروع الفني. ندعوكم لحضور افتتاح هذا المعرض بحضور الفنانين فرانسي كرايس و لوكاس بيك و الذين سوف يتحدثون عن رحلتهم في احياء هذه القصص

عن فرانسي كرايس
فرانسي كرايس فنانة شابة مقيمة بفيينا و تعمل في مجال التصوير الفوتوغرافي والصوت و التصوير السينمائي. وقد لاقت معارضها “البحث عن الوطن الأم” و “أرض الأب” اهتماما كبيرا من فيينا الى روما. تقدم فرانسي انتاجها الفني السردي من خلال العديد من العروض.منذ عام ۲٠۱٥. شملت مشاريعها مهرجان الفنون الادائية كما قدمت عروضا بدار الاوبرا بفيينا بالإضافة الي مسرح بالنمسا السفلى و مسرح بفيينا . تم نشر أول كتاب لها بعنوان “لايم لايت” في عام ۲٠۲٠ . وتقدم حاليا عروضا حية على خشبة مسرح الغرفة المظلمة بأكبر مسارح فيينا حيث تم تقديم “مسرحية العار” لأني أرنو. و قد تم عرض أعمالها التي تم انتاجها خلال عروض “العار” بقاعة لوكاس فايشتنر. في عام ۲٠۲٤ صممت كرايس ديكور المسرح لمشروع “من الجانب المظلم لجبال الالب” وهي جولة تضم ۸٠ حفلا موسيقيا
