Mostafa Abdel Meguid: A Sense of Community: Learning from the Traditional City of Cairo

This talk presents Mostafa Abdelmeguid’s MA dissertation, which is a reader-friendly book that looks at the traditional city in order to understand how it was structured and how it created a sense of community. Titled The Alley of the Milkmaid: A Community Recipe Book, his research is set in Darb Al Labbana in Cairo’s Al Darb Al Ahmar area. Mostafa Abdelmeguid is an Egyptian urban academic and entrepreneur interested in the diversity of Cairo’s architecture and urban contexts. Passionate about bringing people together, he dedicated his studies to dissect what it is that creates social cohesion. He acquired his MA in Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship from Goldsmiths, University of London focusing on the urban environment as a creative industry. He studied the area of Historic Cairo, especially Darb Al Labbana, and what it takes to create a cultural hub with respect to local communities and traditions. Currently, Mostafa is the Growth and Development Manager at The Greek Campus, focusing on repurposing utilised spaces to house startups and the services they require

مصطفى عبد المجيد هو أكاديمي ورجل أعمال مصري حضري مهتم بتنوع الهندسة المعمارية والسياقات الحضرية في القاهرة. شغوفًا بجمع الناس معًا ، كرس دراساته لتشريح ما يخلق التماسك الاجتماعي.

حصل على درجة الماجستير في ريادة الأعمال الإبداعية والثقافية من Goldsmiths ، جامعة لندن مع التركيز على البيئة الحضرية كصناعة إبداعية. درس منطقة القاهرة التاريخية ، وخاصة درب اللبانة ، وما يتطلبه الأمر لإنشاء مركز ثقافي فيما يتعلق بالمجتمعات والتقاليد المحلية.

Questo discorso presenta la tesi di laurea magistrale di Mostafa Abdelmeguid, che è un libro di facile lettura che guarda alla città tradizionale per capire come era strutturata e come ha creato un senso di comunità. Intitolata The Alley of the Milkmaid: A Community Recipe Book, la sua ricerca è ambientata a Darb Al Labbana, nella zona di Al Darb Al Ahmar al Cairo. Mostafa Abdelmeguid è un accademico e imprenditore urbano egiziano interessato alla diversità dell’architettura e dei contesti urbani del Cairo. Appassionato di riunire le persone, ha dedicato i suoi studi a sezionare ciò che crea coesione sociale. Ha conseguito il Master in Imprenditorialità creativa e culturale presso Goldsmiths, Università di Londra, concentrandosi sull’ambiente urbano come industria creativa. Ha studiato l’area del Cairo storico, in particolare Darb Al Labbana, e ciò che serve per creare un centro culturale rispetto alle comunità e alle tradizioni locali. Attualmente, Mostafa è il Growth and Development Manager presso The Greek Campus, concentrandosi sulla riconversione degli spazi utilizzati per ospitare le startup e i servizi di cui hanno bisogno
