The Thirty ninth session of our Seminar “Reading historical documents from Egypt, Medieval till modern times,” which the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology (IFAO) and the faculty of Arts-Kafrelsheikh University jointly organize, features dr. Atef Moatamed, Cairo University.
Title: “Geographical changes of Cairo: a reading of the city’s maps since the French expedition till present” (In Arabic).

Atef Moatamed is a professor in the Geography Department, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University. He presented his PhD in Arid Land Environment (2001), Faculty of Geography, St. Petersburg University, the Russian Federation. His master’s degree was on Coastal Environment (1996). His area of interest during the last 10 years has focused on the changing of human and environmental interactions in the geography of Egypt. Within the realm of international scientific cooperation, he was the Chancellor of Cultural and Educational Affairs in the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow, Russian Federation (2014-2016).

The seminar “Reading historical documents from Egypt, Medieval till modern times”, “Qira’at”, literally means “readings, interpretations”, is organized by Magdi Guirguis who invites researchers who can express themselves in Arabic and present documents they comment. The presentation is usually followed by comments from the organizers and a discussion with the audience.
يعكس عنوان هذه السلسلة من الندوات “قراءات” تعدد تفسيرات الوثائق التاريخية، عنوان الندوة الكامل هو “قراءة الوثائق التاريخية من مصر من العصور الوسطى حتى العصر الحديث”. ينظم الندوة مجدي جرجس الذي يدعو باحثين يمكنهم التعبير عن أنفسهم باللغة العربية وتقديم أحد الوثائق والتعليق عليها. عادة ما يتبع العرض التقديمي تعليقات من المنظمين ومناقشة مع الجمهور
