حفلة الطنبورة الشهرية \El Tanbura’s monthly concert

  El Mastaba Center for Folk Music invites you to the monthly concert of El Tanboura band at El Damma theater and an evening to the tunes of simsimiya and Bambotia dance with the kings of joy who come specially from Port Said to make us happy every first Thursday of every month.

Thursday, August 4, at 9:00 p.m. at Al-Dama Theater.

 The ticket price is 100 pounds, there is no reservation.  First come first served basis

El Tanbura was established by Zakaria Ibrahim in 1988 in Port Said, when he brought together the masters of the simsimia, encouraging them in the revival of their musical heritage. Most of them had stopped playing: their music was no longer in demand as people followed the fashion of pop culture music. Today, El Tanbura includes 20 members – master musicians, singers, philosophers, as well as fishermen, builders, plumbers and vendors, ranging in age from 25 to 84 years. Their instruments are their voices, the Simsimia, the Tanbura (big lyre), Nay also Kawala (end-blown, reed flute), tabla (vase-shaped drum), triangle, Sagat (small cymbals), Shakhalil (kind of castanets) and Riqq (open, wooden frame drum with jingling discs in the frame). Their collected oral repertoire consists of more than 20 hours of traditional songs and much remains to be documented.

The award-winning El Tanbura has performed to enthusiastic audiences in countries all over the world from Canada to Europe, to Australia and Africa. They are regularly invited to participate in international music festivals, such as WOMAD in England, Abu Dhabi and WOMEX in Spain. In collaboration with their English partner, the production company, 30IPS, El Mastaba has produced two albums of international standard for El Tanbura band “Between the Desert and the Sea” and “Friends of Bambouti”. The Center has also produced four albums in Egypt entitled “Nouh El Hamam”, “Ahwa Qamar”, “Resistance songs” and “Azef El Awtar”.

تأسست فرقة الطنبورة في مدينة بورسعيد عام ١٩٨٨ وبدأت بنواة من فناني “الصحبجية” القدماء أرادوا جمع وحفظ تراث بورسعيد الشعبي المهدد بالضياع. وصلت الفرقة اليوم إلى 20 عضوا تتراوح أعمارهم بين 25 و84 عاما، يتبادلون الغناء والرقص والعزف على آلات الطنبورة والسمسمية والطبلة والرق والمثلث والصاجات والشخاليل في تلقائية تحافظ على الروح الأصيلة للتراث، كما تقدم فرقة الطنبورة كل يوم أربعاء مساءا منذ تأسيسها عرض أسبوعي في مدينة بورسعيد. وقد سجلت الفرقة حتى هذه اللحظة حوالي 20 ساعة من التراث الغنائي الشفاهي الذي لم يسبق له التدوين. كما قدمت الطنبورة عروض وجولات عالمية في عديد من المدن مثل باريس وروما وفلورنسا وعمان وجرش، جولات في كل من كندا والسويد وسويسرا ولبنان وهولندا وبلجيكا، بالإضافة إلى مشاركتها في مهرجانات عالمية مثل WOMAD في إنجلترا وWOMEX في أسبانيا. قام مركز المصطبة بالتعاون مع شركة 30 IPS الإنجليزية بإنتاج ألبومين عالميين بعنوان “بين الصحراء والبحر” و”أصحاب البمبوطي”، كما أنتج المركز محليا ٤ ألبومات بعنوان “نوح الحمام” و”أهوى قمر”، “أغاني المقاومة” و”عازف الأوتار.

El Tanbura è stata fondata da Zakaria Ibrahim nel 1988 a Port Said, quando ha riunito i maestri della simsimia, incoraggiandoli a far rivivere la loro eredità musicale. La maggior parte di loro aveva smesso di suonare: la loro musica non era più richiesta poiché le persone seguivano la moda della musica della cultura pop. Oggi El Tanbura comprende 20 membri – maestri musicisti, cantanti, filosofi, oltre a pescatori, muratori, idraulici e venditori, di età compresa tra i 25 e gli 84 anni. I loro strumenti sono le voci, la Simsimia, la Tanbura (grande lira), anzi anche Kawala (flauto ad ancia soffiato), tabla (tamburo a forma di vaso), triangolo, Sagat (piccoli cembali), Shakhalil (tipo di nacchere) e Riqq (tamburo con telaio in legno aperto con dischi tintinnanti nel telaio). Il loro repertorio orale raccolto consiste in più di 20 ore di canti tradizionali e molto resta da documentare.

Il pluripremiato El Tanbura si è esibito davanti a un pubblico entusiasta in paesi di tutto il mondo, dal Canada all’Europa, all’Australia e all’Africa. Sono regolarmente invitati a partecipare a festival musicali internazionali, come WOMAD in Inghilterra, Abu Dhabi e WOMEX in Spagna. In collaborazione con il loro partner inglese, la casa di produzione, 30IPS, El Mastaba ha prodotto due album di livello internazionale per la band di El Tanbura “Between the Desert and the Sea” e “Friends of Bambouti”. Il Centro ha anche prodotto quattro album in Egitto dal titolo “Nouh El Hamam”, “Ahwa Qamar”, “Resistance songs” e “Azef El Awtar”.
