The Abu al-Gheit Ensemble presents Al-Sīra al-Hilāliyya, one of the most important epic poems of the Arabic oral tradition. The singer and storyteller Ismail Radwan will tell the story of the Bānū Hilāl tribe who in the 11th century, from the Najd, conquered the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa. Accompanied by rababa and percussion (tabla, duff, hana), the epic poem is orally transmitted and recited in popular religious festivities, in cafes or on stages set up in small alleys. The Sīra al-Hilāliyya has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2008.

Il cantante e narratore Ismail Radwan racconterà la storia della tribù Bānū Hilāl che nell’XI secolo, dal Najd, conquistò la penisola arabica e il nord Africa. Accompagnato da rababa e percussioni (tabla, duff, hana), il poema epico viene trasmesso oralmente e recitato nelle feste religiose popolari, nei caffè o sui palchi allestiti nei vicoli. La Sīra al-Hilāliyya è stata dichiarata Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale dell’Umanità dall’UNESCO nel 2008.
