Esplorando la vita nel tardo periodo romano a Kom al-Ahmer Delta Occidentale, Beheira, Egitto

Avviato nel 2012, il progetto interdisciplinare si propone di studiare i due insediamenti interconnessi di Kom al-Ahmer e Kom Wasit, mirando a investigare e preservare il loro patrimonio archeologico. La conferenza esplorerà la vita a Kom al-Ahmer durante il tardo periodo romano, basandosi sui risultati delle recenti campagne di scavo. Le ricerche hanno evidenziato un aumento delle attività commerciali nell’insediamento a partire dal IV secolo d.C. La casa tardo-romana rappresenta un esempio nel Delta Occidentale del Nilo, dove gli spazi abitativi erano utilizzati sia per l’abitazione sia per un’intensa attività commerciale.

Questa conferenza illustrerà gli sforzi intrapresi da un team internazionale multidisciplinare per conservare e mantenere una casa risalente all’epoca ottomana, con l’obiettivo di preservare il patrimonio archeologico e architettonico unico di Rosetta. Sarà inoltre approfondito il futuro del Progetto Rosetta, insieme ai piani per la conservazione e la riabilitazione di un intero settore della città. La conferenza si propone di illustrare i risultati numismatici delle campagne di scavo condotte dalla Missione Archeologica Italiana nei siti di Kom al-Ahmer e Kom Wasit, situati nel Delta Occidentale del Nilo, dove probabilmente si trova l’antico centro di Metelis, l’unica capitale di un nomo egiziano non ancora identificata con certezza. Le indagini archeologiche si sono concentrate su questi due insediamenti, situati a sud-est di Alessandria e a sud di Rosetta, molto vicini tra loro, che hanno mostrato una intensa urbanizzazione durante le epoche ellenistica e romana. È molto probabile che le due località appartengano allo stesso centro, ma in epoche diverse; il primo insediamento era Kom Wasit, che fu successivamente trasferito a Kom al-Ahmer nel tardo periodo ellenistico a causa dell’innalzamento del livello dell’acqua del Nilo. I materiali numismatici rinvenuti durante gli scavi superano le 1500 monete e risalgono sia alle fasi tolemaiche sia a quelle dell’epoca imperiale finale e proto-bizantina.

لمحات من الحياة خلال العصر الروماني المتأخر في الكوم الأحمرغرب الدلتا، البحيرة، مصر

بدأ المشروع متعدد التخصصات لدراسة البقايا الأثرية المتصلتين في الكوم الأحمر وكوم وسيط في عام ٢٠١٢ بهدف التحقيق في تراثهما وآثارهما والحفاظ عليها. ستركز هذه المحاضرة على الحياة في كوم الأحمر خلال العصر الروماني المتأخر من خلال نتائج الحفريات الأخيرة. وقد أثبتت الدراسات زيادة الأنشطة التجارية داخل المدينة القديمة بدءًا من القرن الرابع الميلادي. يقدم المنزل الروماني المتأخر مثالاً في غرب دلتا النيل حيث تم استخدام مساحات المنزل للسكن وأيضًا للنشاط التجاري المكثف.

مشروع رشيد: الحفاظ على بيت الأماصيلي، خطوة نحو المستقبل

ستوضح هذه المحاضرة الجهود التي يبذلها الفريق الدولي متعدد التخصصات للحفاظ على وصيانة البيت العثماني في إطار الحفاظ على التراث الأثري والمعماري المميز لمدينة رشيد. كما ستركز المحاضرة على مستقبل مشروع رشيد والخطط الرامية إلى الحفاظ على وإعادة تأهيل قطاع كامل من المدينة.

دراسة العملات للبعثة الأثرية الإيطالية في ميتيليس (غرب دلتا النيل، مصر)

تهدف هذه المحاضرة إلى توضيح النتائج النقدية ناتج الحفائر التي أجرتها البعثة الإيطالية في موقعي الكوم الأحمر-كوم  وسيط في غرب دلتا النيل، حيث يقع على الأرجح المركز القديم لميتيليس. ركزت الدراسات الأثرية على المنطقة التي  تقع جنوب شرق الإسكندرية وجنوب رشيد، وتظهر النتائج مستوى حضري كبير خلال العصرين الهلينستي والروماني.  ومن المرجح أن الموقعين ينتميان تبادلا الاسم القديم، ولكن في فترات مختلفة؛ كانت المستوطنة الأصلية كوم واسط، والتي تم نقلها بعد ذلك إلى كوم الأحمر في أواخر العصر الهلنستي بسبب ارتفاع منسوب مياه النيل. يبلغ عدد القطع النقدية التي تم اكتشافها أثناء أعمال التنقيب أكثر من ١٥٠٠ قطعة نقدية وترجع للعصر البطلمي وكذلك عصر الإمبراطورية الرومانية المتأخرة وبدايات العصر البيزنطي.

Glimpses of life during the Late Roman period at Kom al-Ahmer, Western Delta, Beheira, Egypt, by Giorgia Marchiori and Mohamed Kenawi

The interdisciplinary project studying the two connected settlements of Kom al-Ahmer and Kom Wasit started in 2012 with the aim to investigate and preserve their heritage and archaeology. This lecture will focus on the life at Kom al-Ahmer during the Late Roman period through the results of the recent excavations. The investigations evidenced the increase of commercial activities within the settlement starting from the 4th century CE. The Late Roman house presents an example in the Western Nile Delta where the spaces of the house were used for inhabitation and also for intensive commercial activity.

The Rosetta Project: the conservation of the Amasili House, a step towards the future Cristina Mondin

This lecture will illustrate the efforts undertaken by the international multi-disciplinary team to conserve and maintain the Ottoman period house with the scope of preserving Rosetta’s distinctive archaeological and architectural heritage. The lecture will also concentrate on the future of the Rosetta Project and the plans to conserve and rehabilitate an entire sector of the town.

Numismatic Research of the Italian Archaeological Mission at Metelis (Western Nile Delta,Egypt)

The lecture aims to illustrate the numismatic results of the excavation campaigns conducted by the Italian Archaeological Mission at the sites of Kom al-Ahmer and Kom Wasit in the Western Nile Delta, where the ancient centre of Metelis is probably located, the only capital of an Egyptian nomos not yet identified with certainty. The archaeological investigations focused on the two koms, located southeast of Alexandria and south of Rosetta and very close to each other, which showed intense urbanisation during the Hellenistic and Roman ages. In all likelihood, the two locations are attributable to the same centre, but in different eras; the original settlement was Kom Wasit, which was then transferred to Kom al-Ahmer in the late Hellenistic era due to a rise in the water level of the Nile. The numismatic materials discovered during the excavations amount to more than 1500 coins and are pertinent to the Ptolemaic phases as well as the late imperial and proto-Byzantine phases.
