“Visualizing Stories: How to turn literature into a graphic novel”
Are you an aspiring graphic novelist or an illustrator who wants to learn how to turn a piece of literature into a graphic novel? We are pleased to announce a 3-day graphic novel workshop with the renowned Austrian comic artist Nicolas Mahler. Outstanding art students and young professionals will get the opportunity to refine their skills in an intensive online training. Nicolas will present different artistic ways of illustrating a piece of literature in comic form. As part of a practical assignment, you will work on adapting Franz Kafka’s famous novella ‘The Metamorphosis’ into a graphic novel. The best works will be presented on the social media pages of the Austrian Embassy.

A b o u t:
Nicolas Mahler (*1969) lives and works as a graphic novelist and illustrator in Vienna. His cartoons have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. He has received several awards for his more than 60 books, including the Max und Moritz Prize for “Best German-language Comic Artist”, the Literaturhäuser Prize and the Sondermann Prize. His books have been translated into 12 languages.
