A l’occasion du centenaire de la Constitution de 1923, des spécialistes nous en expliquent l’importance : c’est bien la Constitution de 1923 qui a transformé le mouvement pour l’indépendance de 1919 (dirigé par Saad Zaghloul) en « Révolution de 1919 ». La revendication de l’indépendance étant étroitement liée à celle d’une constitution démocratique, l’indépendance formelle de l’Egypte en 1922 été suivie de l’adoption de la constitution de 1923.

On the occasion of the centenary of the 1923 Constitution, specialists explain its importance: it was the 1923 Constitution that transformed the 1919 independence movement (led by Saad Zaghloul) into the “1919 Revolution”. As the demand for independence was closely linked to that for a democratic constitution, Egypt’s formal independence in 1922 was followed by the adoption of the 1923 Constitution.
