In the framework of EUNIC Art Residency 2023, in collaboration with MAAT|CCDC – Cairo Contemporary Dance Center, EUNIC Egypt organizes an open contemporary dance workshop with the guest artist, Le Scribe Company, co-directed by Adel El Shafey and Maëlle Deral. The workshop is open to all dancers from contemporary and hip-hop background.

About the Workshop This workshop will be focused around the choreographic vocabulary of the company Le Scribe inspired from the philosophy of contemporary dance and Hip-Hop; a work on the qualities of movement, hand dance inspired by tutting, floorwork, incorporating the soundtrack of the company’s latest quartette performance, “Yalla, my friends”. “Yalla, My Friends” is a call to move forward approached as a question of dynamism, energy and resilience, as much in this quartet as in the choreographer’s personal life. Revisiting the choreography and the music of the performance with the participants, and stemming from the interests in the human and artistic encounter, the instructors will encourage the creativity of the participants through instructions for creation and improvisation through a similar approach to the company’s method. Beyond a collective impulse, this workshop will allow everyone to seize the movement and reclaim it.
About Adel El Shafey Originally from Aix-en Provence, ADEL EL SHAFEY is an artist with multiple influences. He practiced disciplines as varied as karate, hip-hop and contemporary dance. As a performer, he collaborated between 2007 and 2014 with the Alexandra N’Possee company, in particular in the play Our Limits. In 2013, he intervened as a choreographer and performer of a video-dance filmed at Cézanne’s studio and shown at the Granet museum in Aix-en-Provence to works by Jean-Michel Othoniel and Marc Couturier as part of an exhibition entitled Trésors de Beisson (exhibition curator Marcel Tavé). In 2013, he also resumed with the company Propos (Denis Plassard) a role in the play Carmen and collaborated with the company Ditto in Switzerland in 2015. At the same time, he continues his work of choreographic research and creates the company Le Scribe and the performance Logos, a piece co-produced by the Ballet Preljocaj, CCN d’Aix-en Provence which supports it until now. Since then, he regularly intervenes in workshops around his choreographic universe and created with his collaborator Maëlle Deral the piece Abysses in 2020, in the framework of the associated artist programme with the Golovine theatre. In 2021, he created Game of Dance, a performance commissioned and programmed as part of the Un Air de Danse #1 festival organised by Ballet Preljocaj. This season, he is invested in the creation of the show Yalla, My Friends whose premieres are scheduled for February 2023 at the Pavillon Noir in Aix-en-Provence.
About Maëlle Deral Originally from Saint Etienne, MAËLLE DERAL trained as a dancer in Coline (Istres) where she worked with Mathilde Monnier, Nacera Belaza, Shlomi Tuizer and Edmond Russo, Georges Appaix. In 2014, she worked with Luc Petton on the creation of Light Bird. Since 2015, she co-directs the Le Scribe dance company with Adel El Shafey. Holder of the state’s diploma in contemporary dance since 2017, she also works as a performer with Gilles Jobin dance company for Dance Trail, Magic Window and Real Time creations. Winner of the 2018 Dansathon, organised by the Maison de la Danse in Lyon, she collaborates with the Shonen company of Eric Minh Cuong Castaing around the Vibes project. She created and performed, with her collaborator Adel El Shafey the show Abysses in 2020, as part of the associated artist programme with the Golovine theatre. This season, she is involved in the creation of the show Yalla, My Friends, the premieres of which are scheduled for February 2023 at the Pavillon Noir in Aix-en-Provence.

عن الورشة ترتكز الورشة حول المفردات الحركية لفرقة لو سكريب، و المستوحاة من فلسفات الرقص المعاصر و رقص الهيب هوب. يتم العمل على جودة الحركة، الرقص باليدين المستوحى من رقص الtutting، و العنصر الأرضي، بإدماج موسيقى العرض الرباعي الأخير للفرقة Yalla, My Friends، والذي يعد كدعوة للتحرك الى الأمام في شكل تساؤل حول الديناميكية، الطاقة، والصمود، وهي عناصر مشتركة بين هذا العمل الرباعي و حياة المصمم الشخصية. عن طريق زيارة التصميم الحركي و موسيقى العرض، وإنطلاقًا من الإهتمام بالالتقاء الفني والإنساني، يقوم المصممين بتحفيز إبداع المشاركين من خلال الإرشادات بهدف التخليق والإرتجال، في إطار مماثل لطريقة عمل المصممين مع راقصي فرقتهم. بخلاف كونها نبضة جماعية، ستتيح الورشة لجميع المشاركين الإلمام بالحركة، وإعادة تملكها
عادل الشافعي من مدينة إكس اون بروفانس، مر عادل الشافعي بتأثرات فنية متعددة، ومارس تخصصات متنوعة مثل، الكاراتيه، الهيب-هوب، والرقص المعاصر. كمؤدي، تعاون بين 2007 و2014 مع فرقة الكساندرا إن-بوز وبالأخص في مسرحية “Our Limits”. فى 2013 عمل كمصمم وراقص لفيلم رقص في ستوديو سيزان والذي عرض في متحف “جرانيت” بإكس أون بروفانس. كما شارك في أعمال لچون ميشيل أوتونيل ومارك كوتورييه كجزء من معرض Tréssor de Beisson (قيم المعرض مارسيل تافيه). في 2013 استكمل عمله في فرقة بروبو (دنيس بلاسار) في دور في مسرحية “كارمن”. وكذلك تعاون مع فرقة ديتو المسرحية السويسرية في 2015. وعلى التوازي، استمر عمله في البحث الكوريجرافي وأنشأ فرقته “لو سكريب” وقدم عرض “لوجوس” وهو إنتاج مشترك مع باليه بريچلوكاچ، والمركز الوطني الكوريجرافي لإكس أون بروفانس، والمستمر في دعم العرض حتى الآن. منذ ذلك الوقت، يقدم عادل بشكل دوري ورش عمل حول أعماله الفنية، كما ألحق ذلك بخلق عرضه الجديد “Abysses” مع شريكته ماييل ديرال في 2020، وذلك في إطار برنامج الفنان المشارك مع مسرج جولوفين. في 2021 صمم عرض Game of Dance كجزء من مهرجان Un Air de Danse الذي ينظمه باليه بريچلوكاچ. هذا العام، عمل عادل على إنتاج عرضه الجديد Yalla, My Friends والذي يعرض لأول مرة في فبراير 2023 في مسرح بافيايون نوار بإكس أون بروفانس
مايل ديرال من مدينة سانت إيتيان، تلقت ماييل ديرال تدريبها على الرقص في كولين (إيستر) حيث عملت مع ماتيلد مونييه، ناصرة بالعزة، شلومي تويزر، وإيدموند روسو ،وچورچ ابيه. في 2014، عملت مع لوك بيتون في عرض Light Bird ومنذ 2015، تعمل كمديرة فنية لفرقة لو سكريب بالإشتراك مع عادل الشافعي. حصلت على دبلوم الدولة في الرقص المعاصر في 2017، وعملت كراقصة مع فرقة چيل چوبان في عروض Dance Trail وMagic Window وReal Time Creations. فازت بجائزة دانساثون 2018 والتي ينظمها بيت الرقص في ليون. عملت مع فرقة شونين للمصمم اريك كوونج كاستاينج في مشروع vibes، كما صممت وادت، بالشراكة مع عادل الشافعي، عرض Abysses في 2020 في إطار برنامج الفنان المشارك لمسرح جولوفين. هذا العام، شاركت في تصميم عرض Yalla, My Friends والذي يقدم لأول مرة في فبراير على مسرح بافيليون نوار فى اكس اون بروفانس.
