Talk by Kathrin Steinbacher: Animated Documentaries

On the occasion of the 3rd edition of Animatex Festival, the Austrian Cultural Forum is happy to welcome the award-winning Austrian animation artist Kathrin Steinbacher. Her works have been screened at festivals around the world, including Slamdance, Ann Arbor, Tricky Women et al. Her film ‘In Her Boots’ has been recently nominated for a BAFTA Film Award. The London-based artist graduated from Kingston School of Art in 2017 and completed her master in Documentary Animation at the Royal College of Art in 2019.

Animation films have the ability to show things that a camera would never be able to capture: They crystallize unconscious emotion and thought, and they allow an endless scope for originality, unrestricted by the dictate of photographic realism and traditional narratives. In her talk, the Austrian animation artist Kathrin Steinbacher will discuss why and how animation can convey emotions, thoughts and feelings that would otherwise be too tricky to communicate.

بمناسبة النسخة الثالثة من مهرجان Animatex ، يسر المنتدى الثقافي النمساوي أن يرحب بفنان الرسوم المتحركة النمساوية الحائزة على جوائز كاثرين شتاينباخر. تم عرض أعمالها في المهرجانات حول العالم ، بما في ذلك Slamdance و Ann Arbor و Tricky Women et al. تم ترشيح فيلمها “In Her Boots” مؤخرًا لجائزة BAFTA للأفلام. تخرجت الفنانة المقيمة في لندن من كلية كينغستون للفنون في عام 2017 وأكملت درجة الماجستير في الرسوم المتحركة الوثائقية في الكلية الملكية للفنون في عام 2019.

In occasione della 3a edizione dell’Animatex Festival, il Forum Culturale Austriaco è lieto di accogliere la pluripremiata artista di animazione austriaca Kathrin Steinbacher. I suoi lavori sono stati proiettati in festival in tutto il mondo, tra cui Slamdance, Ann Arbor, Tricky Women et al. Il suo film “In Her Boots” è stato recentemente nominato per un BAFTA Film Award. L’artista londinese si è laureata alla Kingston School of Art nel 2017 e ha completato il suo master in Animazione documentaria presso il Royal College of Art nel 2019.

I film di animazione hanno la capacità di mostrare cose che una macchina da presa non sarebbe mai in grado di catturare: cristallizzano emozioni e pensieri inconsci e consentono uno spazio infinito per l’originalità, senza restrizioni dal dettato del realismo fotografico e delle narrazioni tradizionali. Nel suo intervento, l’artista di animazione austriaca Kathrin Steinbacher discuterà perché e come l’animazione può trasmettere emozioni, pensieri e sentimenti che altrimenti sarebbero troppo difficili da comunicare.
