Film Screening _ HINTERLAND (AT 2021)

Vienna, 1920. The Austro-Hungarian Empire has collapsed. After years of captivity, ex-prisoner Peter Perg (starring Austrian actor Murathan Muslu) returns home from the Great War. But the Vienna he comes home to is nothing like the place he once knew. The new Austrian Republic thrives on artistic freedom, but anti-democratic movements loom overhead. His life takes a turn for the worse when one of his former comrades is murdered. Returnees were aged and disabled, physically and mentally damaged. They suffered everything that a man with a traditional concept of masculinity would fear, says director Stefan Ruzowitzky, thus creating a deeper understanding of the trauma the Great War inflicted on Europe and Austria, paving the way for the next war to come. The Oscar-winning Austrian director filmed his actors using blue screen technology. The dark lanes, the façades and structures of a desolate Vienna – which are reflecting the perspectives of the returnees – were all created on the computer, providing a grim background to the hunt for an obsessed serial killer.   Vienna, 1920. L’impero austro-ungarico è crollato. Dopo anni di prigionia, l’ex prigioniero Peter Perg (interpretato dall’attore austriaco Murathan Muslu) torna a casa dalla Grande Guerra. Ma la Vienna in cui torna a casa non assomiglia per niente al posto che conosceva una volta. La nuova Repubblica austriaca prospera grazie alla libertà artistica, ma i movimenti antidemocratici incombono in alto. La sua vita prende una brutta piega quando uno dei suoi ex compagni viene assassinato. I rimpatriati erano anziani e disabili, fisicamente e mentalmente danneggiati. Hanno sofferto tutto ciò che un uomo con un concetto tradizionale di mascolinità avrebbe temuto, afferma il regista Stefan Ruzowitzky, creando così una comprensione più profonda del trauma che la Grande Guerra ha inflitto all’Europa e all’Austria, aprendo la strada alla prossima guerra a venire. Il regista austriaco premio Oscar ha filmato i suoi attori utilizzando la tecnologia dello schermo blu. I vicoli bui, le facciate e le strutture di una Vienna desolata – che riflettono le prospettive dei rimpatriati – sono stati tutti creati al computer, fornendo uno sfondo cupo alla caccia di un ossessionato serial killer.
