We Passed By Exhibition-A theatre chronicle

A self-art exhibition that tells the story of a part of the history of the theatrical movement through the experience of a group of independent performing art artists in Egypt, and it is an extension of the exhibition “I Passed by” which was held in March 2021 by director Manal Ibrahim, the creator of the project. The project is an archiving of an important part of the history of the Egyptian theatre in the time period between 1984 to 2004, more than 300 theatre performances, including theatrical performances that were not filmed in the first place and do not currently have any physical presence. “The importance of presenting the project at this stage lies within motivating the current generations in the difficult path of theatre, and to show that how despite the challenges of being technologically behind and dealing with delayed responses from state institutions, there were works being produced during this period. The exhibition aspires to have a generation connected to a new one after 20 years, to know the history of this generation and its signs of creators and playwrights, some of whom are still among us, but have left the field completely as a result of recent technological transformations, which have many advantages and other disadvantages. The project also aims to shed light on some models of the theatrical renewal wave in the nineties, which contributed greatly to enriching the theatrical movement with their works, presence and opinions. This formation of a new and strong wave has, for a long time, influenced the formats and mechanisms of theatrical work in Egypt. This generation of artists has enriched ideas and experiences, and cooperated to create distinctive spaces that are different from the prevailing reality at that time; different from classical theatre and classical performances. They exchanged knowledge greatly, enriched the art scene and changed its form and methods over time.” Director Manal Ibrahim

The opening of Manal Ebrahim’s exhibition “We Passed By, a theatre chronicle” on the 16th of February at 7 PM in Gallery TakhshĪna² at the Goethe-Institut Cairo in downtown.

The exhibition will last until March 16th. Daily visiting hours of the gallery for this exhibition 17th of February – 16th of March: 10 AM – 9 PM

مرينا رحلة مسرحية توثيقية معرض فني يحكي قصة جزء من تاريخ الحركة المسرحية من خلال تجربة مجموعة من فناني الآداء المستقلين في مصر، وهو امتداد لمعرض “مريت” الذي قدمته المخرجة منال إبراهيم والذي أقيم في مارس ٢٠٢١. المشروع عبارة عن أرشفة لجزء مهم من تاريخ المسرح المصري في الفترة الزمنية ما بين ١٩٨٤ إلى ٢٠٠٤، أكثر من ٣٠٠ عرض مسرحي، بما في ذلك العروض المسرحية التي لم يتم تصويرها وليس لها حاليا أي حضور مادي. “تكمن أهمية تقديم المشروع في هذه المرحلة في تحفيز الأجيال الحالية في الطريق الصعب للمسرح، و كيف أنه رغم التحديات إلا أن هناك أعمالا تم إنجازها في هذه الفترة، رغم التأخر التكنولوجي و تأخر المتابعة في هذا الوقت من مؤسسات الدولة. يطمح المعرض إلى تحقيق تواصل جيل مع جيل جديد عقب ٢٠ عاما، لمعرفة تاريخ هذا الجيل وعلاماته من المبدعين/ات و المسرحيين/ات، منهم من هو حي بيننا حتى الآن و لكنه ترك المجال تماما نتيجة هذا التطور التكنولوجي الذي له مميزات كثيرة و مساوىء أخرى. أيضا يهدف المشروع الى إلقاء الضوء على بعض نماذج تيار التجديد المسرحي فى فترة التسعينات والذي ساهم بشكل كبير فى إثراء الحركة المسرحية بأعمال فنانيه وتواجدهم وآرائهم التى ساهمت فى تكوين تيار قوى، أثر لفترة طويلة على شكل وآليات العمل المسرحي فى مصر، وأثرى الفنانون/ات الأفكار والتجارب، وتعاونوا على خلق مساحات خاصة مغايرة للواقع السائد وقتها من مسارح وعروض كلاسيكية، وتبادلوا المعرفة بشكل كبير، وأثروا الساحة الفنية وغيروا شكلها وأساليبها مع الوقت.” المخرجة منال إبراهيم افتتاح معرض المخرجة منال ابراهيم “مرينا: رحلة مسرحية توثيقية ” يوم ١٦ فبراير الساعة ٧ مساءاً في جاليري “تخشينة²” بمقر معهد جوته القاهرة في وسط البلد. سيستمر المعرض حتى ١٦ مارس. ساعات الزيارة اليومية للمعرض ابتداءاً من يوم ١٧ فبراير حتى ١٦ مارس: من ١٠ صباحاً الى ٩ مساءاً.
